Days 4,5,6 ...

I have lost track of the days! It has been a whirlwind adventure; hiking miles thru Edinburgh, climbing castles, towers and thru Royal Garens.

We are now in the Highlands. Just lovely. We drove to Inverness, and by that I mean, my son drove and I sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the scenery. A quick drive thru town and then south to a lovely pull off spot and down to the loch. Windy, but beautiful. The sky was clear; the water an amazing blue. Almost navy in spots and just a wonderful contrast to the soft, light spring green of the leaves. Spring is still coming here.

On to a castle, or I suppose I should say, the ruins of a castle. Breathtaking views from there. The castle was called Urquhart Castle and was the site of many battles. My son and his wife know an astonishing amount of Scottish history and it is fun when they share their stories. Sometimes they disagree about the validity of their versions...

Some of the names of places are hard to say. They don't say them they way we might expect. Of course, that may be because the true pronunciation is with a Scottish accent! So, to say the name of Urquhart Castle it sounds more like Err-kit.

After Urquhart, we drove down to Fort William to stay at a B&B for the night. Our proprietress was a lovely Scottish woman with an wonderful accent. She showed us to our rooms and then left us so we could "settle our bits 'n bobs". She gave us some recommendations for places for dinner and we had a lovely meal up the street. I even tried a bite of Sean's haggis!

More adventures to come!
